How to Avoid Risks with Your Vehicle

Jan 30, 2023

At KG Truck & Auto in Glen Burnie, we understand that big trucks mean bigger risk on the road. Here are some tips to remember, to reduce the likelihood of an accident resulting in large repair costs next time you're on the job.

Maintain an Appropriate Speed  – Obviously, the more a truck weighs, the harder it is to stop. When visibility is low, keep your speed manageable. If you can't see, neither can anyone else, and the possibility of encountering an obstacle created by other drivers is far greater in low visibility conditions.

Keep Your Distance  – Maintain a spacious cushion between yourself and the vehicle in front of you. Give yourself plenty of time to come to a complete stop in the event of a sudden obstacle in the road. Scan as far ahead as you can to stay aware of any potential road hazards.

Avoid Reversing  – Inevitably, you'll have to back up. when you do, try to have someone behind the truck you can watch in the mirror to help guide you. Use your mirrors, go slow, and get out and look behind the truck if you have to. Most accidents happen while backing up in large trucks – there's a lot of blind spots to consider. Whenever possible, enter parking lots in such a way that you can park in a place you can pull forward out of, avoiding the risk of reversing altogether. It reduces the risk of an accident and saves you time and effort.

Keep Your Truck Maintained  – Worn suspension parts, bald tires, and bad brakes all significantly increase the possibility of an accident. A broken suspension component or a blown tire will cause loss of vehicle control, which is obviously not an ideal situation in a large truck. Ensure your truck is well maintained to keep it on the road, maintain better ride quality, and keep it reliable.
