Protecting Your Vehicle’s Interior

Feb 07, 2023

The interior of your car can be difficult to maintain; between you, your kids, and anyone else who gets a ride from you, wear and tear on the interior of your vehicle is constant. Drinks get spilled, burn holes appear, rips and tears happen. Unlike the rest of your car, the interior isn’t made of metal, so it requires special treatment to keep it in good condition.

Nature can take its toll on the inside of your vehicle. Heat and sunlight cause plastic to become brittle, colors to fade, and vinyl and leather to dry out. Leaking gaskets allow water in and damage sensitive electronics and upholstery.

There are a multitude of things you can do to help spare your vehicle’s interior. Apply protective products (such as Armor All) to vehicle upholstery to help prevent stains from settling in and dramatically decrease sun damage. Have your interior detailed regularly to keep it from getting past the point of no return. Keep buttons, switches and dials clean to avoid faulty electronics. Park your vehicle out of direct sunlight or use window shades to keep interiors looking new. Still, accidents sometimes happen, no matter how well you care for your vehicle, and over time you may notice some features inside your vehicle don’t work as well as they once did. Windows that won’t roll down, seats that won’t move properly, seatbelts that don’t buckle, and dashboard electronics that no longer work can all be effects of dirt and grime in unseen spaces in your vehicle. When this happens, you may need a professional’s touch.

KG Truck & Auto in Glen Burnie, MD can help you get your interior in order again if you encounter a problem you can’t fix with a rag and some elbow grease. More often than not, a non-working window can be repaired by removing, then cleaning or replacing a window switch that has had one too many morning coffees spilled on it. Shorted electronics due to leaking interiors or spilled beverages require expert care, as frequently it is necessary to remove complicated dash components and diagnose electrical issues to weed out a problem. We can also replace cracked dash boards and worn out interior parts if you’re simply interested in some renovation to get your car looking nice again. Our mechanics at KG Truck & Auto have the skills required to replace weather stripping and gaskets that have shrunk over time, to seal your vehicle and prevent leaks…in turn preventing damaged interiors and musty smells.

Whatever the spray bottle and a wipe down can’t handle, we can. Give us a call or come visit our shop, and we’ll have the inside of your car functioning, smelling, and looking like it should in no time!
